New York 2019

Being selected for this residency in New York was an incredible opportunity to further my knowledge of past and current art of the USA. Each week the participants were allocated 1 on 1 time with four teachers from the School of Visual Arts to discuss their portfolio and plans for the public exhibition, held on the 6th floor studios of the University buildings. My work comprised of an installation titled ”The Feminine Icon” incorporating textile, painting on transparent Graphix material and painting on Yupo paper. Images of faces, such as that of Beyonce were printed on Graphix with the assistance of the Universities digital lab. The work was a compilation of three goddess-type images within a painted grid format, as a personal exploration of the divine feminine in the context of an urban environment.
