Sweet/Bitter

First solo show since graduation from SCA at Shop Gallery, Glebe, Sydney. Showing works of various sizes using the medium of acrylic on cast acrylic. The series of works combines two contrasting types of mark making: lyrical gesture and geometric abstraction. Both of these styles can be considered polar opposites and were developed as movements in the middle of last century. My effort to resolve these two styles of painting in the one image giving equality to both in a formalistic sense, evokes a sense of tension or drama within each piece. As there is no focal point intended in each work the eye is allowed to roam over the entire surface, as a refreshing counterpoint to the contraction associated with the small screen of the phone.
